Wardle Warriors Blues 6
Unsworth JFC 4
The season didn't get off to the best of starts, with Unsworth scoring after just 3 minutes direct from a free kick to lead
0-1.
Undeterred, the Blues pushed forward with Liam having a couple of half chances before Henry had a shot saved by the keeper. From the subsequent clearance from the keeper, Matthew controlled the ball before running in on goal and shooting in to the bottom left corner to level at 1-1. With the Blues continuing to attack, Liam picked up the ball in his own half before running at the defence and shooting just wide across the goal.
Not to be outdone, Unsworth attacked with a shot which went wide but had Lewis scrambling
across his goal and then were stopped in their next attack with a great tackle from Harrison. With the game ebbing and flowing, Harrison had a shot saved by the keeper who also made a double save from Matthew, then at the other end Harry stopped a shot at goal with a superb sliding tackle.
With 15 minutes of the first half remaining, Liam looked up and shot from the right of the penalty area to make it 2-1 to the blues. Five minutes later with the Blues in the ascendency, Matthew shot past the keeper to make it 3-1. Ellis replaced Jensen and Luke K came on for Liam. Unsworth still pressed and with five minutes to go to half time, Lewis pushed a shot around the post for a corner and from the subsequent corner, they scored to make it 3-2. With half-time approaching, the Blues passed it well up to Luke K in the penalty area who turned the defender before being fouled and the referee had no choice but to award a
penalty. Henry duly despatched it in to the back of the net to make it 4-2. Amy came on for Matthew. Two minutes later, the same again, as Luke K was once again fouled in the penalty area and Henry scored from the spot kick to make it 5-2 just before the interval.
The second half began with Liam on for Harry and Jensen on for Ellis and the Blues looking for a sixth goal. However, the next goal came from the penalty spot for Unsworth after Harrison had been adjudged to have handled in the penalty area. Luke J replaced Amy. This spurred Harrison on as he then had three long range shots all of which unfortunately went wide of the Unsworth goal.
Unsworth came back with a shot which went just over the bar before a mix up between Lewis and Jensen lead to Unsworth making it 5-4. Harry came back on for Luke J and Henry on for Luke K.
The Blues replied with another two long range shots from Harrison and a shot which went wide by Liam before a good run by Matthew forced a save by the Unsworth keeper. From the subsequent corner, Harrison had a good header which went close but over the bar. Over the next 5 minutes the Blues
pushed on with Henry shooting wide from a corner, Liam shooting past the left-hand post, the keeper saving from Matthew before Harrison heading wide from another corner. With two minutes to go, Harrison took a free kick from his own half to Henry, who saw Liam free in the penalty area and he fired it in to the
top right hand corner giving the keeper no chance to make it 6-4.
